Tournament Rules

Anti-Cheat Information

  • All GUIDs banned on http://www.punksbusted.com or http://www.pbbans.com are banned from playing in the Nvidia Gear Up For Battle Tournament unless specifically given allowance to do so from tournament administration.
  • Players who hold match bans for reason relating to hacking, cheating or glitching from local sites such as GameArena, ESGN, or CyberGamer will not be permitted to play under any circumstances. Attempts to evade bans will be severely punished with the team removed from the competition for harbouring a player known to be banned.

Nvidia Gear Up For Battle Call of Duty 4 Tournament INFORMATION

  • The tournament will be held in a pool format. These pools will be decided at the completion of the registration period. Teams will be seeded once registered (based on admin team knowledge of the players and ability, along with previous results), and then a number of groups will be created. Teams will be spread across these groups through seeded criteria, and then the groups will play an online round robin tournament based on all teams playing all teams in the group.
  • Ideally there will be 4 groups, for the top 12 to qualify for the LAN event final. Thus the top 3 in each pool will make it through. In the event more groups than 4 are required, a suitable playoff or wildcard format will be devised. This will likely be the top 4 teams of each pool being seeded, and then the bottom placed teams playing off against each other for the final berth(s).
  • Final berth qualification and seedings will be based on the following ranking criteria:
    1. Win Loss Ratio e.g. 5 wins and 1 loss, places higher than 4 wins and 2 losses.
    2. Round Difference Ratio e.g. 80 round wins, and 25 round losses are divided – 80/25 and gives a difference ratio of 3.2, which places higher than 80 round wins and 42 round losses which gives a difference ratio of 1.90.
Note: a match won in overtime will be marked as a 16-15 result for purposes of round difference calculations.
    3. Winning Team
If the tied teams met up at any point in the round robin match ups, then the team who won the encounter will seed higher.
    4. Coin Toss
In the event the previous two criteria don’t present a difference between the two teams, they will be seeded based on a random event – a coin toss.
  • All matches are played in a 5v5 format using the Promod modification, version 2.11 NE (Not Europe).
  • All matches consist of a maximum THIRTY rounds (two FIFTEEN round halves). In the event of a draw score at full time (15-15), an overtime system  is to be played consisting of SIX rounds (two THREE round halves) until a winner is found. The winning team will need to score 4 points in overtime.
  • Bomb Timer is set at FORTY-FIVE seconds.
  • Bomb Planting time is set at FIVE seconds.
  • Bomb Defusal time is set at SEVEN seconds.
  • There is a limit of ONE sniper rifle, ONE shotgun and TWO Spec-Ops classes per team.
  • The Promod 2.11 NE modification limits the weapons available in the game. Thus, the use of all other weapons is prohibited as are the use of “hard points” or “killstreaks”.
  • Dead rounds/Timeout: A dead round allows a team to bring an extra player if the need arises (situations such as lag-outs, disconnections, PC crashes). A player can call a timeout which can be accessed via Promod commands section of the quick chat menu (default B key). When a timeout is called by a player, the next round will revert to Ready Up mode for 5 minutes only.
  • The round in which the dead round was called will be played out as normal. Timeouts have a maximum duration of FIVE minutes or when all players are ready. Abusing the dead round/timeout system for causes other than the aforementioned will result in a reprimand at the discretion of the tournament administrators.
  • Any team that drops out of the tournament once it has begun will forfeit all matches they were scheduled to play IF no replacement team can be found. A replacement team will not be seeded whatever their skill level
  • A SINGLE Roster change can be made during the tournament – once this roster change has been made, no further changes will be allowed. Up to 2 player changes may be made in the change ensuring the core of the original named team is maintained.

Nvidia Gear Up For Battle Call of Duty 4 Tournament RULES

  • All players must record a demo of their matches. To do this: Open console (~ key), type /record and press ENTER. You must keep the demos of your online qualifier matches until the 31st July 2012. All demos taken on LAN must be copied to a player’s own storage facility and held until the 31st August 2012 also – The Gear Up For Battle Administration is not responsible for obtaining and holding on to your demos from the LAN PCs.
  • All players MUST use the name they were registered as or a name similar to this in all matches. Using a misleading/different name is not justification for a match dispute, but may result in punishment.
  • If uncertain of a player’s identity, ask for their registered name OR open console (~ key), type /pb_plist, record PunkBuster GUID of player in question and compare with a suitable GUID database
  • Playing a player that is not on your registered team list will result in a forfeiture of the match. Teams are strongly urged to ensure all the players registered for the tournament are available for all tournament dates.
  • Smurfing in a match (playing for a team that you aren’t in the roster for) will result in the player being banned from the rest of the tournament and the match result will be overturned.
  • Both teams have FIFTEEN minutes from the match start time to have a minimum of FOUR of their own players in the server.
  • If a team drops to 3 players during the match, they have a maximum of 5 minutes to get a 4th player back in or they will forfeit all of the remaining rounds of the match. If a side has less then 4 players at the 15 minute mark then the match should not go ahead, the team with less then 4 players forfeits, however if both sides agree to play the match with less than the minimum required players then the match result will stand, READYING UP ASSUMES YOU AGREE TO PLAY THE MATCH. If you start the match, the result will stand, you cannot try to forfeit a team afterwards…
  • If you both agree to play a match then you can not try to forfeit for something that you should have forfeited for at the beginning of the match…
  • During half-time (including half-time of overtime), all players have a maximum of FIVE minutes to be on ready mode. This also applies to the starting time of each overtime sessions.
  • Failure to produce a demo at the request of a ladder administrator after a match will see the player concerned receive a ONE match ban for the player and/or forfeiture of the result. Only in exceptional circumstances are these penalties modified.
  • Do not talk excessively in global chat in-game, especially when you are asked by the other team. Being abusive will lead to a forfeit of the match at the ladder administrator’s discretion.
  • Using the mousewheel to shoot is considered illegal.
  • The use of binds to rapidly switch cl_maxpackets between 30 and 100 (or similar) to gain an unfair advantage is considered illegal.
  • Glitching and scripting are considered illegal and unfair and will result in the loss of any rounds where they are used.
  • The use of cl_maxpackets < 30 and rate 10000 is illegal.
  • The use of an exploit bypassing Promod’s cvar restrictions to use illegal commands, such as 333 FPS, is severely illegal and you will be banned immediately from the tournament.
  • Weaponry (rapid fire shooting – for example: the use of G3 semi-automatic rifle) and jumping scripts (sequenced* jumping or “sequenced grenading” etc) provide an unfair advantage, thus their use is illegal.
  • Any bind that has a “wait” command in it is going to be considered “scripting”, with the exception of the use of (and ONLY of) “weapnext; wait [x]; weapnext”. Use of the wait command in any other context may result in a ONE match ban for the player.
  • Any bind that has a “vstr” command in it is also considered “scripting”. The use of this is considered highly illegal given these have the ability to mask other commands, and may result in a full tournament ban for the player.
  • There will be no referees in the Gear Up For Battle matches, however an admin may be present from time to time. Permitted spectators are Gamestah or other approved shoutcasters whom hold the right to hold a shoutcast broadcast in whichever match they wish.
  • Unsportsmanlike behaviour will be dealt with at the discretion of an administrator.
  • Making false/useless disputes will be dealt with at the discretion of an administrator.
  • All players should have less than 150 ping. If 3 of your players have more than this, then you forfeit the match, unless the other team specifically allows the match to go ahead.
  • A person who is blatantly warping around the map is not allowed, and in this instance multiple timeouts may be called in order to obtain an admin to overview the situation and make a ruling. In order to make a ruling, the admin may need some match rounds to be played – these rounds will be deemed valid for the result of the match until an admin decision is made in full.
